Being able to monitor sensors and fuel trims and datalog is invaluable for run problems, and just plain fun! I found a Samsung Q1 Ultra Moble PC on Craigslist for a couple hundred and got Nissan Data Scan for another hundred. The Q1 is a fully functional PC so it's cool to have anyway, but it's touch screen and only weighs a couple pounds. So I can attach it to my dash over the stereo, use it as a carputer and be monitoring whatever sensors I wish. Super easy to run cylinder balance tests, temporarily alter base timing or a/f ratio, set idle, activate various solenoids, like VTC. You can even control the signal being sent from the CTS to simulate a cold start condition or an overheating condition. You can use it for speed tests, 0-60 times, too. Use my smartphone as a wireless hotspot and I've got internet access from anywhere. I can log onto TT.net and search for info from the parking lot! lol. ....anyways, its my newest z toy, and I can't recommend it enough. Datalogging a test drive is awesome. Pinpointing the problem from looking at a graph of the sensors output is even better. And then of course fixing it, and feeling (and seeing) the difference on the next test drive is the best.
